The Day of Unity of the Peoples of Belarus and Russia is celebrated annually on April 2. It was on this day that in 1996 the heads of the two states signed the Treaty on the Formation of the Community of Russia and Belarus, and a year later – the Treaty on the Union of Belarus and Russia. This marked the beginning of mutual integration. In 1999, the Treaty on the Creation of a Union State of Russia and Belarus was signed, which gave impetus to the development of economic and cultural ties between the countries. Over time, the Union State project remains relevant for both states and continues multi-faceted development, including in the technology development and innovation field.

Thus, recognizing the need to integrate efforts focused on the intellectual property development, in 1994 the Agreement on Cooperation in the Industrial Property Protection was concluded between the Government of the Republic of Belarus and the Government of the Russian Federation.

Continuing work on the establishment of an international legal framework of bilateral cooperation, in 2015 the Agreement on Cooperation between the National Center of Intellectual Property of Belarus and the Skolkovo Foundation was signed.

At the current interaction stage at the end of 2020, two significant documents were signed reflecting modern and promising areas of cooperation between the National Center of Intellectual Property and Rospatent: Memorandum of Understanding and Memorandum on Providing Access to the PatSearch Information Retrieval System.

The World Intellectual Property Organization and the Eurasian Patent Organization also provide platforms for enhancing interaction between Belarus and Russia in the intellectual property sphere, harmonizing legislation and setting key directions of improving national and regional legislation in the intellectual property sphere.

Bilateral cooperation is also facilitated within the frameworks of the Eurasian Economic Commission and the CIS Executive Committee, allowing the parties to increase the scientific and technical capacity of not only our countries, but also in the region as a whole.

Multi-vector cooperation between Belarus and Russia plays a key role in strengthening the national capacity and the unity of our peoples.
