On November 12, 2020, the National Center of Legislation and Legal Research of the Republic of Belarus in cooperation with the National Center of Intellectual Property held a scientific and practical event in the round table format dedicated to discussing the prospects for codification of IP legislation of the Republic of Belarus.

The subject of discussion included the goals, objectives and stages of work on the codification of IP legislation of the Republic of Belarus, and prospects of using foreign codification experience.

The round table was attended by representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, republican governmental bodies, public organizations, legal scholars, as well as representatives of the Russian Federation.

The National Center of Intellectual Property was represented by the Director General Uladzimir Rabavolau, Deputy Directors General Alexander Zayats and Anzhela Plionkina, Head of the Legal and Human Resources Department Tatsiana Kavaleuskaya, Deputy Head of the Legal and Human Resources Department Natalia Novikova.

Head of the Department of Copyright, Related Rights and Private Law Disciplines of the Russian State Academy of Intellectual Property Ivan Bliznets and Head of the Department of Intellectual Property Law of the Research Center for Private Law named after S.S. Alekseeva under the President of the Russian Federation Elena Pavlova shared their experience in codifying IP legislation, and expressed their position and recommendations on this issue.

The participants of the event exchanged views on the advisability and possible ways of codification in the IP field in the Republic of Belarus. 

Most of the participants highlighted the need to additionally consider this issue as part of drafting the concept of a code on intellectual property. Based on the results of this work, well-founded conclusions are to be drawn and certain proposals prepared.
