Pyotr Kuziukovich was born on February 24, 1924 in the village of Povyazen, Molodechno district, Minsk region, in a poor peasant family. Since 1930 he studied at the elementary school in Radashkovichi, after graduation he entered Vilnius gymnasium, from 1939 to 1941 he studied in Minsk at school No. 60. From 1941 to 1944 he worked in his father's farmyard, in 1945 he entered the Minsk Medical Institute.

After graduating from the institute, Pyotr Kuziukovich worked as a doctor at the Svislach district hospital, then as a surgeon at the Volkovysk Hospital, and as the head of the surgical department at the Slonim District Hospital. In 1957, he completed advanced courses in thoracic surgery and tuberculosis at the Central institute for the advancement of doctors and began working as the head of the surgical department of the Slonim Anti-Tuberculosis Dispensary. In the conditions of the district hospital, Pyotr Markavich was one of the first in Belarus to organize the provision of qualified surgical care to patients with pulmonary tuberculosis. In 1959, he was transferred to the Belarusian Research Institute of Tuberculosis to the position of the research assistant – the doctor in the surgical department.

In 1962, Pyotr Kuziukovich defended his candidate's thesis «Lung resection in tuberculosis», in 1969 - his doctoral thesis «Surgical treatment of advanced forms of pulmonary tuberculosis». In 1971, Pyotr Kuziukovich was awarded the title of professor.

From 1971 to 1974, he was the deputy director of the tuberculosis BelNII for scientific work. This period of work was the most productive in the development of pulmonary surgery in Belarus. In 1974, he was invited to the position of professor of the department of phthisiology at the Belarusian Institute for Advanced Training of Doctors, where he worked until August 1992. Under his direct supervision, the department of thoracic surgery was opened at the Minsk Regional Anti-Tuberculosis Dispensary (Borovlyany), where the department of pulmonology and phthisiatry of the Belarusian State Institute for Advanced Medical Education is located.

P. Kuziukovich was a highly qualified specialist in the field of pulmonary surgery, a talented organizer of the educational process, and a prolific researcher. Under his leadership, methods of intensive therapy and surgical treatment of non-specific respiratory diseases, differential diagnosis of bronchopulmonary pathology were successfully developed.

Scientific activity of P. Kuziukovich covered various aspects of phthisiosurgery and pulmonology. He published 2 monographs: «Use of mechanical suture in surgical treatment of pulmonary tuberculosis» and «Surgical treatment of patients with advanced forms of pulmonary tuberculosis.» Also, P. Kuziukovich actively introduced resection methods of treating tuberculosis patients in anti-tuberculosis sanatoriums and tube dispensaries of Belarus (thousands of similar operations were performed by him and his students).

P. Kuzyukovich was also the chairman of the problem commission «Pathology of respiratory organs» at the scientific medical council of the Ministry of Health of the BSSR, an expert of the VAK commission on pulmonary surgery, deputy chairman of the regional society of surgeons.

For effective scientific and organizational-methodical work Pyotr Kuziukovich was awarded the medal «For Valorous Labor. In commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the birth of Vladimir Lenin, he was repeatedly awarded with commendations and awards of the Ministry of Health of the BSSR with the badge «Excellent health care worker».

A wonderful person, a professional who possessed a brilliant surgical technique, he always attracted young surgeons to him, which contributed to the development of the common cause. Pyotr Kuziukovich trained 6 candidates and 1 doctor of medical sciences. His desciples work in many regions of our republic and abroad.
