Every year, the Global Innovation Index (GII), developed by the World Intellectual Property Organization, assesses the innovation potential of various countries and economies of the world. Belarus ranks 80th in the GII-2023 among 132 economies of the world.

The most innovation-advanced countries in 2023 are Switzerland, Sweden, the United States of America, the United Kingdom and Singapore. Countries located in sub-Saharan Africa, as well as in Southeast Asia, East Asia and Oceania, show innovative activity exceeding their level of development (21 countries).

С According to the GII report, currently the five largest scientific and technological clusters (STCs) in the world are located in East Asia, and China is the country with the largest number of clusters. Tokyo – Yokohama is recognized as the largest STC.
