Aliaksei Kurman, Director General of the National Centre of Intellectual Property (the NCIP), delivered a welcoming speech, noting the significant growth in exports of foodstuffs and agricultural raw materials in 2025: В«Every year, foodstuffs are exported from our country to more than 110 countries around the world. Furthermore, over the previous five-year period, the agricultural sector was one of the most sought-after sectors among national applicants when filing applications for patents for inventions and utility models. I would like to note that in 2025, the number of applications for patents on plant varieties increased by 19.1% compared to 2024В».
During the event, participants discussed issues relating to the protection of industrial property in the context of innovative development within the agri-industrial sector, as well as current strategies in the agricultural sector to combat counterfeiting and piracy. Experts addressed new opportunities for plant breeders and issues of food security, as well as copyright matters in the agricultural sector.
Speakers included representatives from the National Centre of Intellectual Property, the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, the State Inspectorate for the Testing and Protection of Plant Varieties, the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations, the Belarusian State Agrarian Technical University, and the limited liability company В«LeksPatentВ».
