On December 31, 2021, the President of the Republic of Belarus signed the Law of the Republic of Belarus “On Accession of the Republic of Belarus to the Industrial Design Protection Protocol to the Eurasian Patent Convention of September 9, 1994”.

Accession of the Republic of Belarus to The Industrial Designs Protection Protocol to the Eurasian Patent Convention (Protocol) enhances national Belarusian legislation providing the ability to apply for a Eurasian industrial design patent.

The Protocol acts as an amendment to the Convention establishing the Eurasian patent system and providing the possibility to protect designs on the territory of all the Convention member states by means of a single unified Eurasian patent. Currently there are 8 countries parties to the Convention including all five members of the Eurasian Economic Union (Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan).

For the Republic of Belarus the Protocol will take effect three months after depositing the accession act with the relevant depositary (approximately – second quarter of 2022).
