On January 19, 2022, the Republic of Belarus deposited the Act of Accession of the Republic of Belarus to the Design Protection Protocol to the Eurasian Patent Convention of September 9, 1994 (hereinafter – Protocol), at the World Intellectual Property Organization.

In accordance with Paragraph 4 of Article 22 for the Republic of Belarus the Protocol will enter into force on April 19, 2022.

Entering the Protocol by the Republic of Belarus will provide Belarusian applicants with cheapening and easing of design protection and patent maintenance procedures on the territory of the Protocol Member-States (one stop principle).

The Protocol presupposes a single unified Eurasian design patent issuing (maintenance) valid on the territory of all the Protocol Member-States.

In order to get a design patent in any Protocol Member-State the applicants will need to submit a single application (in Russian) at the national patent office and pay the related fees in single currency (Russian Rubles).

Currently the Protocol Member-States list contains Kyrgyzstan, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Russia, Kazakhstan and Belarus.

On April 19, 2022, Belarus will become the 7th Member-State of the Protocol.
