Belarus is set to approve the national strategy on intellectual property until 2030 soon, Belarusian Deputy Prime Minister Aleksandr Subbotin said during the international conference “Intellectual Property in the Contemporary World: Challenges and Prospects”.

“The State Committee on Science and Technology has submitted to the Council of Ministers the national strategy on intellectual property until 2030, which defines a specific plan of action. The key tasks are to develop regional and international cooperation, to digitize administrative processes, to promote technology transfer and commercialization of innovations and also training, development of the creative and inventive potential of young people. We plan to approve this document at the government level in the near future,” Aleksandr Subbotin said.


He also noted that the EAEU is coordinating actions in the field of intellectual property rights. One of the topical issues is the effective use of legal instruments by the right holder. “It is extremely important that the EAEU states should see the tasks of protecting intellectual property rights, combating unfair competition and countering illegal imports of goods in the same light and address them effectively,” the deputy prime minister emphasized.

The purpose of the conference is to analyze the status, problems and development trends in the protection of intellectual property in Belarus and abroad. “The theme of the conference is directly related to science. Everything that scientists do is the basis of intellectual property in space, e-transport, biotechnology, agriculture and other sectors. In general, the relevant legislation in Belarus is quite well-developed; the rights of developers are protected. The issues of stimulating R&D, payment of royalties and bonuses require refining. There should be a direct connection between R&D and financial incentives,” Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Vladimir Gusakov emphasized.
