Larisa Zaitseva was born on September 2, 1946 in Bobruisk (Mogilev Region).

She graduated from Belarusian State University with a degree in Philology (1970). In 1980, she completed her postgraduate studies at the Institute of Art History, Ethnography and Folklore of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, specialising in cinema, television and other forms of screen art.

She worked at the ‘Nauka i Tekhnika’ publishing house in the literature and arts editorial department. From 1980 to 2005, she was a member of staff at the K. Krapiva Institute of Art History, Ethnography and Folklore. In 1992, she defended her thesis and was awarded a Candidate of Art History degree.

Larisa Zaitseva began her teaching career at the Belarusian State Academy of Arts as early as 1977 and currently holds the post of Professor in the Department of Management, History and Theory of Screen Art.

Larisa Zaitseva is the author of study programmes on the organisation of film and television production, the fundamentals of film criticism, the history of feature films, and other subjects.

Her academic interests as a film scholar center on the history of world and Belarusian cinema, genre issues in cinema, and the adaptation of literary works for the screen.
