Lyudmila Dedova was born on August 22, 1951. After graduating from Odessa State Medical Institute, she worked as a dentist in private practice. In 1980, she completed her postgraduate studies, and in 1999, her doctoral studies at the Department of Therapeutic Dentistry No. 1 at the St Petersburg Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education.

In 1982, she defended her PhD thesis on the topic ‘Medical check-ups for patients with periodontitis using vacuum-assisted diagnosis and treatment’. Since 1984, she worked at the Belarusian State Medical University (BSMU) in the Department of Therapeutic Dentistry. For over 20 years, she served as Head of the 3rd Department of Therapeutic Dentistry at the University. Since 2022, she has been Head of the Department of Periodontology at BSMU.

In 2000, she defended her doctoral thesis on the topic ‘Vacuum Darsonvalisation in the Treatment of Periodontal Diseases and Diseases of the Oral Mucosa (a clinical and experimental study)’. In 2003, she was awarded the title of professor.

Lyudmila Dedova is the author of over 300 scientific papers, 44 inventions and 40 technical proposals. Under her supervision, 10 candidate’s theses and 3 doctoral theses have been completed, nine of which relate to periodontology and the oral mucosa. The scientific findings of Professor L. Dedova’s research have been presented on numerous occasions at international and national congresses, conferences and seminars.

Since 2008, she has been a full member of the International Academy of Dentists (ADI). Since 2008, she has been Chair of the Belarusian Republican Public Association of Dental Specialists. She is the founder and editor-in-chief of the scientific and practical journal ‘Stomatolog’ and a member of the editorial board of a number of journals in neighbouring and more distant foreign countries.

Lyudmila Dedova has been awarded the following honours: ‘Outstanding Contributor to Healthcare in the Republic of Belarus’, ‘For a Significant Personal Contribution to the Development of MGMI-BGMU’, as well as honorary medals from St Petersburg State Medical University and the title of ‘Honorary Doctor of the Eurasian Union of States’, and honorary diplomas and certificates: ‘For many years of conscientious work and high professional excellence in the field of healthcare’ from a member state of the Eurasian Economic Union, as well as from the Presidium of the Republican Committee of the Belarusian Trade Union of Healthcare Workers, the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Belarus and BSMU.
