On April 23, 2021, the Press House hosted a press-conference “State support for business development in Belarus. Market entry or how to commercialize your ideas”.

The conference was attended by the Head of the Legal and Human Resources Department of the National Center of Intellectual Property Tatsiana Kavaleuskaya.

Tatsiana Kavaleuskaya stressed that, according to the World Intellectual Property Organization, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) account for about 90% of commercial companies around the globe and provide about 50% of employment: “At the heart of each business lies the idea that is then embodied in certain products and services. Of course, the idea itself is almost impossible to commercialize. Therefore, there are such instruments of an intellectual property system, as inventions, industrial designs, trade secrets, trademarks, geographical indications, etc., that can help commercialize business ideas”.

The speaker noted that the concluded licensing and assignment agreements for inventions, utility models, industrial designs, and trademarks are subject to mandatory registration in the patent office (NCIP) and without such registration are considered invalid.

Tatsiana Kavaleuskaya also mentioned about the platform – the Intellectual Property Exchange – where you can submit the data on your development to get it commercialized. As of the first quarter of 2021, 686 commercial offers for industrial property rights were posted on the Intellectual Property Exchange.
