The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) has published a regular report “Global Innovation Index” (GII) timed to the topic “Developing Innovation in the Context of the COVID-19 Crisis”, the Republic of Belarus moved up in GII from 64th to 62nd rank in 2021.

Our country has traditionally taken the highest ranks in terms of the consolidated positions “Knowledge and Technology Outputs” (37th rank), “Human Capital and Research” (38th rank) and “Infrastructure of Innovations” (59th rank). Regarding the specified positions, Belarus traditionally has high ranks in “Development of Mobile Applications” (1st rank), “Females employed w/Advanced Degrees” (1st rank), “ISO 9001 Quality Certificates” (3rd rank), “Government Funding/Pupil, Secondary”(5th rank), “Tertiary Education” (7th rank), “Graduates in Science and Engineering” (11th rank), “ ICT Services Exports” (11th rank).

The improvement in the ranking of Belarus in GII-2021 is the result of collaborative work carried out by the State Committee on Science and Technology and the National Center of Intellectual Property, as well as other state bodies and organizations. The key goals of the named work is to develop the innovative economy infrastructure, improve the business and institutional environment, and improve the education quality.

It should be noted that in 2018 the Republic of Belarus took 86th rank in GII, in 2019 – 72nd, in 2020 – 64th and in 2021 – 62nd.
