VISIT OF GEORGIA DELEGATION

The purpose of the visit was holding a task meeting on the issue of protection of geographical indications and appellations of origin. The Georgian party expressed interest in acquiring the right to use appellations of origin in regard to the Georgian appellations in the Republic of Belarus.
A precondition for this initiative was a new edition of the Law of the Republic of Belarus “On geographical indications”, that came into force on 15 January 2013. The edition provides simplified procedures of granting the rights of using appellations of origin for foreign entities, as well as Georgian.
NCIP and Sakpatenti expressed their mutual interest in further productive cooperation between the Offices.
