The contestants were asked to present a short video on the topic "We are young and innovative. Let's build a better future with IP!". A total of 142 entries were received from 63 countries. From April 12 to 22, 2022, anyone could participate in an open online voting process, which received 36,819 votes.

First place went to Hekma Jabouli (25) from Syria, who submitted a short film about a homemade smart device designed to help her sister regain mobility after a shrapnel injury to her spinal cord. In an online voting process, H. Jabuli's video was selected as the best among nearly 150 entries from several dozen countries.

John Wobil (27) from Ghana came in second with a video about an innovative rice thresher, and digital designers Li Binglu and Cai Qingge from China came in third with a story about creating new pictograms, or emoji, to enable communication between remote workers.

WIPO Director General Daren Tang noted that roughly half the world's population is under 30, the fastest growing demographic in many parts of the world. Young people today are actively working to solve universal problems, relying on intellectual property (IP) - namely trademarks, patents, designs, copyright and others - to help people earn a living.

WIPO is working to create a more inclusive intellectual property ecosystem by increasing access to IP for groups that have historically been underrepresented, such as women, young people, and small businesses.
