This landmark event was filled with a number of events and meetings of a high level, which emphasizes the importance of the visit for further innovative, scientific and technical development of the country.

On June 4, 2019, the President of the Republic of Belarus met with the Director General of WIPO. During the meeting, Alexander Lukashenko reaffirmed Belarus' interest in further cooperation with WIPO.

On June 5, 2019, Mr. Gurry visited the Government House to meet with the Prime Minister. Sergei Rumas noted that Belarus is interested in developing with the participation of WIPO the network of Technology and Innovation Support Centers, implementing the National Project in the Sphere of Intellectual Property for Universities and Scientific Organizations, as well as introducing new information projects in the activities of the National Center of Intellectual Property.

In order to consolidate the main directions of further cooperation with WIPO during the meeting at the Government House, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Government of the Republic of Belarus and the World Intellectual Property Organization. On the Belarusian side, the Memorandum was signed by the Chairman of the State Committee on Science and Technology of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Shumilin.

On June 5, 2019, Vladimir Makey, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, also met with Mr. Gurry. During the meeting, the parties discussed the interaction of Belarus with the World Intellectual Property Organization, strengthening the position of our country in the Global Innovation Index, the possibility of involving Belarusian specialists in the implementation of WIPO projects to develop systems with elements of artificial intelligence.

On the same day, under the Chairmanship of the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus Oleg Kravchenko, a meeting of the Scientific Advisory Council on International Law at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was held, at which Mr. Gurry made a presentation on “International Intellectual Property in the Modern Digital Economy”.

As part of the official visit, the WIPO Director General visited the Administration of the High Technology Park. Mr. Gurry noted the great potential of the Belarusian IT cluster in Eastern Europe and praised the conditions created in the country for the development of high-tech business.

In order to discuss the scientific development and potential of Belarus, Mr. Gurry visited the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. During the visit, the WIPO Director General met with the top management of the State Committee on Science and Technology of the Republic of Belarus and the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.

At the Academy of Public Administration under the aegis of the President of the Republic of Belarus, Mr. Gurry met with the Rector of the Academy and the faculty. At the meeting, Dr. Francis Gurry was awarded the title “Honorary Professor of the Academy of Public Administration under the aegis of the President of the Republic of Belarus”.

On June 4-5, 2019, the Regional Seminar “Current Challenges and Strategic Use of Intellectual Property Rights” was held at the National Library of Belarus, in the opening ceremony of which Mr. Gurry participated.

The Director of the National Library of Belarus Roman Motulsky for the WIPO delegation conducted an excursion in the library and spoke about the potential of the institution as the country's largest information and sociocultural center and depository of WIPO documents.
