WIPO Intergovernmental Committee 46th session

The 46^th session of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Intergovernmental Committee on Intellectual Property (IP), Genetic Resources, Traditional Knowledge and Folklore (IGC) was held in Geneva, Switzerland from February 27 to March 3, 2023.

The main topic of the meeting was the elaboration of two IP legal instruments aimed at establishing minimum international standards to ensure balanced and effective protection of traditional knowledge (TK) and traditional cultural expressions (TCEs).

During the meeting, experts discussed the use of common law references in draft TK and TCEs protection instruments, the need for formalities to obtain protection, potential voluntary registration systems, databases, national treatment and cross-border cooperation.

Following the outcome of the 46th session, the IGC will continue to develop and discuss the text of the international legal instruments for the protection of TK and TCEs intersessionally and at its 47^th session which will be held

The 47^th session will take place from June 5 to 9, 2023.
