Work is Underway on the Strategy of the Republic of Belarus in the Sphere of Intellectual Property

On May 29, 2020, an online working meeting on the development of the Strategy of the Republic of Belarus in the Sphere of Intellectual Property for 2021–2030 was held.
The event was attended by the representatives of the World Intellectual Property Organization (hereinafter – WIPO) Mr. Oleksandr Shevchenko and Mr. Ron Marchant, as well as the representatives of the National Center of Intellectual Property (hereinafter – NCIP) – Director General Mr. Uladzimir Rabavolau, Deputy Director General Mr. Aliaksei Kurman, Head of the Legal and Human Resources Department Mrs. Tatsiana Kavaleuskaya and other representatives.
During the event, Mr. Marchant praised the work carried out in the Republic of Belarus in the intellectual property field.
Moreover, a discussion on the implementation of the Strategy of the Republic of Belarus in the Sphere of Intellectual Property for 2012 – 2020 was held. Problematic issues related to inventive activity were discussed, and the reasons and conditions conducive to this were analyzed. Measures of the future strategy will certainly be aimed at overcoming them.
NCIP representatives also informed a WIPO expert about Belarus joining the Marrakesh Treaty to Facilitate Access to Published Works for Persons Who Are Blind, Visually Impaired, or Otherwise Print Disabled.
Within the framework of the event, the main vectors of the forthcoming work on the development of the Strategy of the Republic of Belarus in the Sphere of Intellectual Property for 2021–2030 were identified; priority directions for the development of the intellectual property system of Belarus were developed. They are to be included in the new strategy.
Mr. Marchant noted the invaluable importance of involving all those interested in the development of the draft strategy and recommended that representatives of state bodies and organizations be invited to participate in this work.
Following the discussion, certain agreements on further joint work of NCIP and WIPO in developing a future strategy were reached.
