As part of the 59th series of meetings of the Assemblies of the Member States of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), the Belarusian delegation met with Carsten Fink, WIPO's chief economist, during which issues related to the Global Innovation Index were discussed.

The Global Innovation Index is an annual ranking of countries by their capacity for, and success in, innovation. It is published by Cornell University, INSEAD, and the World Intellectual Property Organization, in partnership with other organizations and institutions,[1]:333 and is based on both subjective and objective data derived from several sources, including the International Telecommunication Union, the World Bank and the World Economic Forum.

According to the Index, the Republic of Belarus took the 72nd place in the Global Innovation Index in 2019, increasing its rating by 14 positions.

The parties agreed to organize a videoconference and a visit of WIPO experts to Belarus.


Following the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the NCIP and WIPO concerning alternative dispute resolution in the sphere of intellectual property, the Belarusian delegation met with the director of the arbitration and mediation center of the World Intellectual Property Organization.

During this meeting, the parties developed a roadmap for the development of a mediation system in the sphere of intellectual property through the creation of a special department in NCIP.
