On 23 April 2026, the National Olympic Committee of the Republic of Belarus hosted the international seminar «Technological Trends and Their Role in the Development of Sport: Issues Relating to the Protection of Intellectual Property Rights», held to mark World Intellectual Property Day.
The seminar was organised by the State Committee on Science and Technology of the Republic of Belarus (SCST) and the National Centre of Intellectual Property (the NCIP), with the support of the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO), the National Olympic Committee of the Republic of Belarus (NOC), the Ministry of Sport of the Republic of Belarus, and the Belarusian State University of Physical Culture (BSUPC).
The seminar opened with welcoming words from Denis Korzhitsky, Chairman of the State Committee on Science and Technology, WIPO Director General Daren Tang (online), NOC Vice-President Dmitry Dovgalenok, Chair of the Standing Committee on Education, Science, Culture and Social Development of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus Natalia Pavlyuchenko, Vladimir Ryabovolov, Vice-President of the EAPV and EAPO; Leonid Tanin, Chief Advisor to Holographic Industry CJSC and Honoured Inventor of the Republic of Belarus; and Aliaksei Kurman, Director General of the National Centre of Intellectual Property.
During the event, representatives from the Ministry of Sports of the Republic of Belarus, the State Customs Committee of the Republic of Belarus, the Eurasian Patent Office of the Eurasian Patent Organisation, Belteleradiocompany, the Belarusian State University of Physical Culture, the Belarusian State Economic University, the BNTU ‘Polytechnic’ Science and Technology Park, the Republican Scientific and Practical Centre for Sport, the ‘BelFranchising’ Association of Franchisors and Franchisees, as well as leading experts from the National Centre of Intellectual Property, spoke about the specific features of managing intellectual property rights in the field of sports, the mechanisms for the commercial use of such rights, and the protection of rights in the context of media coverage of sporting events.
In addition, the seminar covered the specific aspects of copyright in sports, issues relating to franchising, sponsorship agreements, the transfer of rights to use a club’s intellectual property to partners, and other topics.
The seminar closed with the presentation of certificates confirming participation in the training as part of the event programme.
