On February 25, the Victoria Olimp Hotel hosts a regional seminar “Intellectual Property in the Contemporary World: New Challenges”. The event is organized by the State Committee on Science and Technology of the Republic of Belarus (SCST), the National Center of Intellectual Property (NCIP), and the BelBrand Intellectual Property Protection Association with the support of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).

The seminar was opened by the Vice Chairman of the SCST of the Republic of Belarus Mr. Sergey Shcherbakov. “The main consistent steps that we take in terms of regulating the intellectual property system are laid down in the Strategy being developed. It will allow us not only to adapt our national system to the realities of the economy functioning, but also to meet current trends and international standards. In addition, now it is necessary to encourage scientists, inventors, innovators to dispose of the rights to their intellectual property, to use the creativity results for profit. This is important both for their incomes and for the economic prosperity of the country. ”

“Here we are talking about new intellectual challenges. I am pleased to note that today it is possible not in every member state of the World Intellectual Property Organization. The protection of intellectual property and the results of research activities, including the development and adoption of legislation is at a very high level in the Republic of Belarus,” stated Mr. Michal Svantner, the Director of the Department for Transition and Developed Countries of the WIPO.


“In the contemporary world characterized by the rapid development of digital technologies, intellectual property is an integral part of the functioning and development of the state’s economy. I can confidently say that with the enormous intellectual potential of the Republic of Belarus, the creation and application of integrated systems for the protection and enforcement of intellectual property is a priority for the further development of the social, economic and innovative policies of our state,” noted Mr. Rabavolau, the Director General of the NCIP.


“Such seminars represent a universal platform for the exchange of views of the representatives of enterprises and business community. In particular, I would like to note that representatives of our law enforcement agencies and the Prosecutor General’s Office pay attention to this topic, and also thank them for the support they provide. In today’s world there is an understanding that the protection of intellectual property is a matter of the state’s national security. Therefore, when exchanging views, we plan to consider also the tools for protecting intellectual property,” highlighted Mr. Albert Taipov, the Chairman of the BelBrand Association.
